**The purpose of this site is to explore, resource, and understand the lives of Latino Youth and the generations that have shaped their existence. Our goal is to create an extensive resource that can inform leaders that serve this population.

Purpose: Latino Generation

To study the needs, aspirations and unique characteristics of Latino Youth ages 14 -24. The purpose of this web site is to collect available resource information that informs individuals as they seek to be effective leaders within this population.

History

A grant titled “Outreach to Latino Emerging Generations”, June, 2000, was approved for funding to develop resources to inform leaders seeking to serve multiple Latino generations and resource effective ministry methodologies. This original effort was not completed due to changes in personnel and the broad goals of this project. The purpose of this new project titled “Latino Generation” is to pick up one of the many important aspects of this former project and bring it to completion. The second purpose is to use this resource as a pilot for a larger body of needed future research that picks up some of the important goals of the original project.

Need Statement

  • Awareness of the unique characteristics of the Latino youth culture
  • Resource available documents and resources that is helpful
  • Network individuals and agencies that are working within this cultural dynamic
  • Recognize the developmental nature of building this resource
  • Harvesting the experiences and stories of specific communities and individuals
  • Providing one resource for effective dissemination of information related to this body of knowledge. (There is a need for information concerning Latino culture and the Latino youth within this reality.)
  • Attention is given to inform those in leadership positions in multiple settings.

Methodology

  • Literature review and indexing of the findings
  • Web review of helpful sites
  • Discover effective current ministries serving Latino Youth
  • Identify key leaders that could make resources available to this project
  • Harvest through web technology additional helpful resources
  • Purposely seek ecumenical efforts and seek collaboration

Outcomes

  • Establish an advisory task force to guide this project.
  • A web site that is the “hub” of gathered resources.
  • This gathered information will guide future recommendations for further research projects.
